Adopting a preventative approach to a boiler service
At Baxi, we’re working towards a preventative solution when it comes to boiler servicing.
Adopting this approach aims to give homeowners additional reassurance and value when having their annual service, while at the same time, reducing the likelihood of you as the installer having to carry out a callback repair and disruption at a later stage.

Preventative action vs reactive boiler repairs
Think about the service that you get for your car. This identifies potential issues with high wear components of your vehicle before they escalate. Better to treat the issue early, than breakdown in the fast lane of the motorway! A similar approach to boiler services can help homeowners keep their heating system working properly and presents a more cost-effective solution.
For you as the engineer, being proactive in replacing high-wear components of a boiler during its annual service helps to ensure the boiler runs safely, consistently, and reliably. The likelihood of an unplanned callout – and the disruption that comes as a result – is also reduced, keeping you and the homeowner happy.
So, the next question is, how does this work in practice?
Introducing the Baxi Care Kit
The Baxi Care Kit provides a simple, structured way to carry out preventive maintenance based on the age and condition of the boiler. Each kit includes genuine, system-specific parts, built around preventive maintenance intervals. Using these parts ensures the correct fit and function for each boiler, supporting safe operation and consistent performance.
The kits are optional for the homeowner and are recommended during an annual service, meaning they will not impact warranties.
There are two versions that we offer: the Baxi Care Kit and Baxi Care Kit Plus, both of which focus on replacing certain high-wear parts before wider problems are caused and are recommended to be used during an annual service. This helps to prevent leaks, pressure loss, and efficiency issues. Each is available in three different versions - A, B, C – to ensure compatibility with our product range.
The ‘standard’ kit includes replacements for different core high-wear parts, such as gaskets, seals, flue adaptor test plugs, and O-rings, with Plus kits containing all components from the standard kit, plus a broader range of components to ensure a greater focus on preventing disruption. Both are suited for use at key lifecycle points when components benefit from being replaced. The Care Kit Plus range includes maintenance at specific lifecycle points recommended every 3 - 5 years.
The benefits of using a Care Kit
Baxi Care Kits are designed to help keep boilers running efficiently and reliably, with the added benefit of preventing issues at the earliest opportunity. Everything needed for recommended preventive maintenance is contained within the kit. This helps reduce the need for callbacks and protects professional credibility and reputation by delivering a high-quality service.
Preventive maintenance also provides a cost-effective solution for the homeowner. The comparatively low cost of a Baxi Care Kit mitigates the cost of having to replace components when they have excessive wear or, in extreme cases, get an entirely new boiler and system fitted.
For an installer, using a Care Kit is a means of adding value to the homeowner’s boiler service. Though a recommendation and not a requirement, the care kits we provide at Baxi show a commitment to ongoing boiler care in addition to an annual service.

Other preventative steps to take
Care Kits can be one part of a wider preventative approach to boiler care and servicing. Supporting homeowners with steps they can take throughout the year, such as regularly checking the boiler pressure, bleeding radiators, and being aware of how sludge can impact the heating system, ensures their appliance is in good working order before the service takes place.
