Evaluating whether to switch off your air source heat pump
Your air source heat pump works best when it runs continuously. Switching it off entirely may impact on its effectiveness and as it takes more energy to restart, could lead to higher costs in the long term.
Using your air source heat pump’s holiday mode or a reduced setting keeps the temperature of your home stable and prevents additional wear when it’s not needed. For winter holidays, maintaining this temperature can help minimise the risks associated with condensation within your home and frost or ice buildup on the unit.
Preparing your home for your holiday
Before going on holiday, adjust the thermostat on your air source heat pump to a suitable, constant temperature. This may be slightly lower than its usual setting, depending on the time of year and the length of your holiday.
Check that the intake is clear from debris and the filters are clean well ahead of your departure, and seek professional maintenance if necessary. For winter breaks, make sure the refrigerant level is topped up.
The holiday mode setting for your Baxi air source heat pump can be programmed to continue running during pre-determined dates while you’re on holiday. Find out how to do this here.
Returning home and setting your air source heat pump
Upon returning, before switching off your heat pump’s holiday mode, check for any issues that may have arisen during your absence, such as error messages on your unit’s screen and if the intake has become blocked by branches or other debris.
Some heat pumps, like the ones we have here at Baxi, have the function to automatically return to your default settings so your home will already be at the temperature you are comfortable with before you arrive back. You can also use the My Baxi app to make changes to your heat pump settings from your smartphone.
