How to set a central heating thermostat
Your central heating thermostat controls the temperature throughout your home.
It does this by measuring the room temperature, comparing it to what you’ve set as your desired temperature, and switching on your appliance to maintain a comfortable level of warmth.

The different types of thermostat you can have
Central heating thermostats can be wired, wireless, standard or smart (controllable via an app).
Setting the thermostat to the right temperature
The way you set your temperature will vary slightly according to the one you have.
For example, you might need to programme a digital thermostat schedule or, in the case of smart thermostats, schedule the thermostat through the use of a smartphone app. As an example, take a look at how to set the temperature on our OpenTherm thermostat.
Using on/off schedules is also effective in maximising your comfort without the need to have the heating on constantly. If you have a smart thermostat, any adjustments to your heating schedule or desired temperature can be easily done from your smartphone.
What temperature should you choose?
An optimum temperature should be between 18 and 21 degrees. This provides a comfortable level of warmth without having to use too much energy. You can also use thermostatic radiator valves so that you only heat the rooms that you are using, again, saving energy in the process.
Using digital schedules and smart controls
At Baxi, we offer both standard or smart wireless controls. Smart thermostats enable you to control your heating and hot water requirements from the convenience of your smart device. They can also be used to control different zones throughout your home, providing a consistent comfort level wherever you are, and your installer will be on hand to show you how.
