Mayday! Mayday! Entertainment Incoming!

Spring has definitely sprung and with it, the sporting season is finally upon us. May is stacked to the rafters with entertainment options so, sit back and let us provide you with a few of the highlights:

Sports

10th-11th May – European Rugby Union Finals Weekend – hookers descend on Newcastle in great numbers. The Challenge Cup Final and The Champions Cup Final, one day after the other, both at St. James’ Park.

18th May – FA Cup Final – the most famous domestic cup competition in the world comes to a close. Citizens vs Hornets – sounds like a sci-fi film, and it would take something out of this world for Watford to beat Manchester City. But this is the FA Cup, so we could be eating our words…

25th-27th May – EFL Playoff Finals – ‘proper football’. None of that fancy-dan Premier League stuff, even if the whole point of these games is to win a promotion. Football fans, fickle? Never!

30th May – Cricket World Cup – cricket isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but it’s not often England are overwhelming favourites for a World Cup, never mind in their own backyard. Should be a corker.

1st June – Champions League Final – the only thing better than the Champions League Final is the Champions League music. Get both in Madrid on the 1st of June.

1st June – Gallagher Premiership Final – if union is more your thing, the Rugby Union Premiership Final also takes places on the 1st of June.

Movies

10th May - Pokémon: Detective Pikachu – it’s hard to understand how a film about little Japanese monsters can be ‘live-action’, but Ryan Reynolds voicing Pikachu is the best casting decision since Ryan Reynolds played Deadpool.

24th May – Aladdin – it’s weird enough that Robin Williams won’t be in this. Add in the fact that it’s a Guy Ritchie film, who directed Snatch, and this could be a very different film to the original cartoon. Bare-knuckle genie fighting anyone?

Important Dates

24th-26th May – Radio 1 Big Weekend – Radio 1 bring Miley Cyrus, Foals, The 1975, Little Mix, and many, many more to Middlesbrough.

27th May – Spring Bank Holiday – we’ve had several bank holidays recently. This is the last one for a while, so make the most of it.
