Air Source Heat Pumps

How much space do I need for an air source heat pump?

Air source heat pumps (ASHPs) need sufficient outdoor space to operate efficiently and safely.

The exact amount of space you need depends on the model of heat pump you have, but typically, you’ll need a minimum of 300mm behind your heat pump, for example between the heat pump and the wall of your property behind it. You should also leave around 1 - 1.5 metres of clear space in front of the fan to have clear airflow.

Your installer will work with you to position your heat pump in the most suitable location. Take a look at some of the other considerations to keep in mind for an air source heat pump installation here.
