While many of us completely forget about our central heating system during the warmer months, it’s actually the perfect time to give it some TLC before the weather turns colder again.
Our engineer, Carly, has some top tips for looking after your system which could stop costly problems later on.
Essential maintenance and efficient performance
The warmer months are a great time for you to get some essential maintenance tasks ticked off your list. Take the opportunity to schedule your boiler’s annual service and get any potential issues sorted.
You might also want to look at extra measures, like insulating your pipes, reducing your flow temperatures, and having a filter fitted so that your system continues working efficiently.
It’s also worth considering a system flush, as this will clear away any particles that could clog up your system and cause your boiler to work harder than it needs to, potentially costing more on your energy bills in the long-run. We also recommend bleeding your radiators to clear away sludge and topping up your boiler pressure.
Be smart about managing your system
Finally, make use of technology such as smart thermostats and smart radiator valves so that you only use the energy that you need. You can also use holiday modes to ensure the system stays running at a lower level when you’re away.
Remember, you’ll still need to keep your system active to ensure you have hot water for washing dishes and other household uses. You might be tempted to turn the system completely off during summer, but this might cause important components to seize up.
Using smart technology is a more efficient way of looking after your heating system and keeping it in the best possible working condition.
