LPG Boilers

Around four million homes in the UK are not connected to the mains gas network. These homes use other methods, such as electricity, oil, wood, solid fuel or liquid petroleum gas (LPG) for heating.

What is an LPG boiler?

LPG is different to natural gas because it is delivered by road and stored in a gas tank on the property. Like mains gas, LPG is a very efficient fuel, so when used with a high efficiency, condensing boiler, it could save you money on heating bills.

There are boilers that are designed specifically to work on LPG, while some boilers that have been designed to work on mains gas can be converted to work on LPG. Other than that, LPG boilers work in a very similar way to natural mains gas boilers, on a central heating system with radiators, a timer and room thermostats.

Having a high efficiency LPG boiler rather than using other forms of heating fuel considered to be ‘less environmentally friendly’ means that properties in off-mains gas areas can enjoy the benefits of high efficiency boilers. It has the lowest carbon emissions of the fossil fuels available to rural homeowners, particularly compared to oil, so can help lower the home’s carbon footprint as well as reduce home heating and hot water costs.
