Bringing a preventative approach to boiler care
Your car needs a service every year or after so many miles to replace the parts that are commonly worn; a similarly preventative approach can also work wonders for your boiler.
At Baxi, we’re making preventative boiler care a reality through our unique boiler Care Kits.

What are the Baxi Care Kits?
Our Care Kits are designed to support the planned replacement of certain components of a boiler. The kit contains genuine Baxi parts that have been selected to address issues that can lead to leaks, pressure loss, efficiency issues, and other problems that may cause heating and hot water disruption.
These Baxi recommended kits are optional and are not a requirement of the boiler warranty. They are designed to make the approach to boiler care consistent and preventive, replacing perishable components before they become a problem, rather than relying on being reactive when repairs are needed.
Baxi Care Kits will primarily be offered by your local installer, so you can be assured that they will be fitted to a high standard of quality and safety, and have peace of mind that they contain Baxi Genuine Parts.

How does a care kit add protection to a boiler?
Each of our Care Kits provides a different level of protection for boilers at various stages of their lifecycles. The A, B, and C kits are highly recommended to be fitted annually, conveniently upon an annual service visit from your installer. The Care Kit Plus range goes a step further to include maintenance at specific lifecycle points recommended every 3 - 5 years where additional components benefit from a replacement.
For example, gaskets and seals, by their nature, are crushed in position in order to make a seal, and so in the interest of best practice, it is recommended that these components are replaced during a service. In addition to Care Kits being fitted on an annual basis, Baxi boilers also have extra safety features to keep them in prime condition, such as a 24-hour pump cycle to prevent the pump from seizing during summer months when the central heating is typically switched off.
In essence, a Baxi Care Kit gives preventive reassurance that the boiler is protected and maintained, without discovering upon an annual service that a worn component needs replacement retrospectively or even a repair.
Maintaining boiler reliability and performance
A few simple steps can go a long way in keeping your boiler in optimal working condition. We are often asked by homeowners whether they should turn off their boiler during the summer months to save energy. It’s easy to see the logic, however this can be detrimental to the long-term health of the boiler as parts can potentially seize up when not in use, which increases the risk of a breakdown when there’s a higher demand for heating.
In this case, it is better to run the boiler on a low setting so key components keep on ‘ticking over’. Again, we can use the comparison of a car; one that has been sitting on the drive for a few weeks will likely have a flat battery and need jumpstarting. In a boiler sense, this is the same as an engineer being called out to restart it, which can be costly and takes a lot of energy.
Having proper insulation around your pipes and other aspects of the heating system means that your boiler will not need to work as hard to provide the level of warmth you expect. This can result in lower energy usage (and as a result, cheaper bills), but perhaps more crucially, less wear on your boiler and less chance of a breakdown.
Finally, setting your boiler up correctly so that your heating comes on at a certain time or when the room temperature drops below a certain level reduces ‘short cycling’ and can be a more efficient way of keeping your home comfortable throughout the day. Energy saving and wireless controls from Baxi can be a great option to support your boilers efficiency as well as maintaining your comfort.

How a preventative approach works with your warranty
Your warranty is there to give you a safety net should something unexpected happen or an unforeseen repair is needed. After all, it’s better to be safe than sorry when it comes to your heating system.
Taking a preventative approach by using one of our Care Kits doesn’t mean that your warranty will become void. It’s an extra layer that can help keep your boiler working properly outside of having an annual service and preventing unnecessary warranty or out of warranty repair calls from the engineer. Remember, you’ll need to have a boiler service each year to keep your warranty valid.
Ultimately, a boiler care kit by Baxi is a proactive way of maintaining boiler performance all throughout the year, while at the same time, giving you peace of mind that you’ll be protected in case something unexpected happens.
