Does my boiler filter need cleaning?
The sludge that your magnetic filter collects will need to be removed because once the filter is filled up, it can’t catch any more debris. It will still allow the water to pass through, but will not collect any more sludge.
You can ask your installer to clean your filter at the same time as carrying out your annual boiler service.
Some filters come with an app that can warn you when they filter needs to be cleaned, so that you can arrange for your installer to visit before it gets too full to work properly.

Sludge, or magnetite, to give it its proper name, is a black substance in the central heating pipes made up of dissolved and rusted metal.
