Heat networks

What settings can a heat network work with?

A heat network, or district heating, can be a viable solution for most settings where heat is needed to be supplied to multiple end users.

Distributing the heat from a central source or sources removes the need for each end user to have their own boiler, which can be ineffective and inefficient, alongside posing potential safety issues.

Heat networks can supply a large area, including city centres, or alternatively, they can be used for smaller, localised developments or a block of flats with multiple residences. As demand grows, new sources can be added to the network, ensuring a futureproof solution.

Implementing a heat network can also work for developments where managing emissions and sustainability are key considerations. They can connect to heat pumps or make use of heat from industrial sites that would usually be wasted. Local generation and distribution also reduces the likelihood of heat loss and the use of insulated pipes to carry the heat improves retention and therefore, overall efficiency of the system.
