Heat Networks

Are there certain property types heat networks work better with?

Heat networks are designed to work well with most building types. There are some settings where they may be more efficient.

Urban areas with higher population densities, for example, have been proven to benefit from utilising a heat network, with data showing that more than 50% of heat network consumers between 2019 and 2022 were based in London. Multi-storey residential blocks are another example of where heat networks have shown to deliver benefits.

New-build properties, where the infrastructure for a heat network is installed as part of the planning and construction stages, are also good candidates for connecting to a heat network. That said, it is often possible to connect other, existing, properties to the network through a retrofit process.

Buildings that tend to have constantly high demand, whether that is spread over multiple buildings or within one large complex, tend benefit well from heat networks. Settings such as university campuses, hospitals and care facilities, MOD camps, and large residential developments are all good examples of where a heat network is particularly beneficial.
