How can I keep my commercial boilers working efficiently - Industrial Boiler Tips and Tricks - Baxi

Why is efficiency important?

Improving efficiency can lead to long term savings on operational costs. Boilers that are more efficient waste less energy and won’t need to work as hard to deliver the required output. This, in turn, keeps energy bills for the entire building low and supports you as the building manager in your financial planning and budgeting by accurately forecasting fuel costs.

Perhaps most importantly, an efficient boiler system maintains the comfort of building occupants and individual users.

Simple steps to improve efficiency

Enhancing boiler efficiency can be achieved through a number of proactive measures. Insulated pipes, for example, can prevent heat loss and your boiler system having to work harder to compensate.

Many commercial boiler systems utilise smart technology to maintain efficiency and effectiveness. Smart thermostats allow you to have greater visibility and control over the temperature in different areas of the building, so you can adjust your energy usage according to where it’s needed the most. Similarly, thermostatic radiator valves in individual rooms or areas of the building allows heat to be used where there is the greatest demand.

If you suspect that your boiler is coming to the end of its lifecycle, then it may be time to look at upgrading to a new model. Heat recovery systems are also an option to explore – these capture flue gases that would otherwise be wasted, and the heat is used to preheat incoming feed water.

Improve efficiency by insulating pipes, using thermostatic radiator valves, and ensuring your boilers are serviced regularly for optimum performance.

Servicing and maintaining the efficiency of commercial boilers - Baxi

The importance of servicing and maintenance for commercial boilers

Keeping your boiler well-maintained and serviced on a routine basis is crucial for maintaining its overall efficiency. Servicing ensures all crucial components are working effectively and can also highlight potential issues affecting efficiency before they escalate further.

For sites that have a particularly high demand for heating, servicing might be needed every six months in order to keep the system working effectively and ensures that your warranty stays valid.

Maintaining efficiency using a boiler cascade system

Buildings with multiple boilers can still achieve greater efficiency by using a cascade system. By spreading the total required heat output over multiple boilers that can be brought online as the demand for heating varies, the system provides a consistent, efficient level of performance that doesn’t waste heat.

A cascade system also removes the need for one large boiler that constantly goes through energy-intensive short cycles. This means that the system can operate at closer to maximum efficiency and should one boiler need to be taken offline for maintenance or a repair, the others within the system can easily compensate.
