Hear from our commercial heating experts at Elemental London
We’re excited to have not one, but two speaker slots at the upcoming elementalLondon conference at the ExCel London taking place in November. As headline sponsor, we’re proud to show our support for this growing event and how we are working with fellow professionals to help reduce energy use and carbon in the built environment.
So what can you expect from our talks? Read on to find out.
Talk 1: Decarbonising Heat in Schools
We’re bringing the speakers from our popular discussion on the challenges and opportunities surrounding decarbonising heat in UK schools back for another insightful discussion.
In April 2025, we published the results of our survey of school estate managers and consultant engineers and contractors which we commissioned to understand their attitudes towards decarbonising heat and heat pumps. Some of the main findings point to enthusiasm and support for moving towards lower carbon heat. But reported challenges with funding, power requirements, and technical difficulties, coupled with a shortage of skilled installers, are holding back heat pump deployment.
At elementalLONDON, Baxi’s Jeff House and Andy Green will be joined by renewables expert and the managing director of Oakes Energy Services Nik Smith, and Jim Kirby, Energy Consultant for the Priory Federation of Academies Trust. Nik and Jim will share their insight and experience gained from decarbonising a series of buildings run by the multi-academy trust using our air source heat pumps.
Join us to discover more about the achievable options, practical tips and best practice checklists when installing heat pumps, particularly in existing school building stock. We’ll also reveal the results of our research and policy recommendations to remove the barriers that schools currently face in a complex, evolving energy transition.

Talk 2: The role of point of use water heaters in meeting Passivhaus principles
The second of our talks, which will take place at the Build2Perform Synergy Theatre at Elemental London, involves our Head of Technical Solutions Andy Green and David Coulter, the Associate Building Services and Certified Passivhaus Designer at BakerHicks (Motherwell). The pair will reveal new data demonstrating the strong energy performance achieved at Riverside Primary School, Scotland’s first Passivhaus accredited primary school and the importance of the hot water design strategy in achieving this.
Passivhaus standards and certification requirements prioritise energy efficiency and minimal heat loss. While these are rightly focused more on the primary building geometry and fabric performance, other factors need to be considered, such as hot water delivery.
This presentation will focus on the benefits of Point of Use Water Heating in low-energy designs to overcome the energy losses associated with a centralised water heating system. We’ll be looking at how this has been achieved at Riverside Primary School and how Baxi’s Heatrae Sadia point-of-use electric water heaters have contributed to the exceptional standards with energy-efficient hot water provision.
