Let's Talk ASHP Solutions - Part 4
Martin Walton, Baxi’s Senior Commercial Training Officer, discusses training on Air Source Heat Pumps and the potential to reduce energy costs, helping towards the net zero target we are all so passionate about.
How dramatically will working practices change?
Installers in the industry are understandably worried that the move to heat pumps is going to be a massive change for them. We’re here to reassure them that this isn’t the case. The fundamental principles of working with heat pumps are the same as with gas boilers, we’re just working with slightly lower temperatures.
Ultimately, we’re still moving water around a system. The core skills already in place will stand installers and engineers in good stead as we take this step forward together.
Here at Baxi we have a dedicated design and solutions team to help people on their journey, not only with installation but also with implementing heat pumps into a full hybrid system.
Heat pumps have the potential to reduce energy costs and help towards the net zero target we are all so passionate about.
What training does Baxi offer specifiers?
Here at Baxi, we are proud to offer a wide range of training opportunities for specifiers. It’s very important that specifiers fully understand the products, particularly if they are going to implement them into hybrid systems.
We are focussed on delivering solutions that offer the best performance in every circumstance, so much of our training is around system design and how to overcome challenges.
Our goal is to make all training – no matter how it is delivered – engaging, informative and relevant. Our experienced team are here to guide and inform along every step of the journey.
What specifics does the training cover?
Firstly, we will gauge the level of existing knowledge within the individuals we are training. This helps us to deliver bespoke training sessions that are not merely covering old ground. Conversely, it’s important we don’t immediately jump into advanced topics if the foundation knowledge is not there yet. We are very happy to work alongside and offer training to both new specifiers and people who have been in the industry for decades.
Our training is product-focussed. Typically, specifiers will come to Baxi for specific training on the products they are most interested in. As well as taking an in-depth look at those products and their capabilities, we’ll also show specifiers what applications can be used with different systems and controls.
We are a solutions-driven business, so we focus our training primarily on design and how products can work together to ultimately deliver the best outcome for the end user. Heat pumps generally will not be a standalone solution – they tend to work alongside and in conjunction with other applications, including traditional gas boilers.
For example, for the Auriga heat pump, we'll focus on how that refrigerant cycle works and we'll look at how we apply that in a full solution.
How does Baxi share its expertise with installers?
We have a wealth of experience at Baxi across both the commercial and domestic sectors. Most of our training team are former engineers who have worked their way through the industry. That firsthand knowledge and experience helps us to offer advice that is relevant. We’re here to show installers all the useful insights that can aid them on their journey.
When engaging installers with training, we’ll focus primarily on what first-class installation looks like, but we’ll also look at maintenance and commissioning of our products. It’s very important that people understand these three distinct aspects before they start work.
We’ll also run through any changes to legislation so that installers are kept up-to-date with latest best practice.
We share our knowledge through various channels. We have a dedicated helpline that is often the first port of call for enquiries and we also have experienced trainers who are on hand to assist. This training and advice can be delivered either online or face-to-face.
Much of the training we offer is completely free. It’s a fantastic way for installers to expand their knowledge and skills, giving them a significant advantage in a competitive marketplace.
When problems arise, how does Baxi respond?
Problems are rare but, of course, not always avoidable. When support is required, we’re here to help through our dedicated helpline, our engineers on the road and our training division.
We have an enormous amount of knowledge within the team and often problems can be swiftly resolved over the phone. When further action is required, an experienced engineer can be swiftly deployed to offer expert guidance.
