What is a back boiler?

A back boiler unit (BBU) is a boiler that is built in behind an electric or gas fireplace and provides hot water and central heating in homes.

Back boilers were incredibly popular during the 1970s and 1980s when conventional boilers were closer in size to a washing machine and much more difficult to install. Baxi launched the iconic Bermuda boiler in 1966 which went on to sell over 2 million units before being discontinued in 2015. As boiler technology has progressed, we've been able to develop modern high efficiency condensing boilers which weigh as little as 20kg and can be installed by a single engineer.

We no longer manufacture back boilers but customers who have a back boiler installed will still be supported by Baxi Genuine Parts who can assist you with any spare part needs.
