FAQs

Below you will find answers to some of the most commonly asked back boiler questions. More technical questions and answers can be found on our microsite, www.baxibermuda.com.

Q. Who can install the new Baxi Bermuda back boiler?
A. Installation work should be carried out by a Gas Safe registered installer (Gas Safe replaced CORGI as the gas registration body in Great Britain in 2009). You can find a local, registered installer here.

Q. How long does it take to install the back boiler and fire?
A. In our experience, the Baxi Bermuda BBU HE and fire front can both be installed within a single day. Your installer will be able to advise more specifically on timescales.

Q. How do I choose which fire front I want?
Our interactive product selector at ww.baxibermuda.com allows you mix and match the different styles of fire and fire surround, helping you decide what would best suit your home. You can then print off your requirements to give to your installer.

Q. How do I control the back boiler unit?
A. Simple boiler controls are discreetly situated on the left hand side of the fire frame. So while they are easy to reach, they won't detract from the stylish look of your fire.

Q. Can I get money off the new BBU via the Boiler Scrappage Scheme?
A. To qualify for a Boiler Scrappage Scheme grant, your existing back boiler will need to be SEDBUK Band G or lower. If it is, and it's the main boiler in your home, then replacing it with the new Band A Baxi Bermuda would indeed qualify for a grant.

Q. Why install the new Baxi Bermuda if my old one still works?
A. The new Baxi Bermuda BBU HE is considerably more efficient than older versions - meaning less wasted energy and significantly lower heating bills. You could save up to £375 each year by switching to the higher efficiency model - and there's environmental benefits too.

Q. Can I use the new back boiler with my existing gas fire?
A. When the boiler is fitted, the open flue is replaced with the single piece concentric flue - so there is no way for the combustion gases to escape. As such, the Baxi Bermuda BBU HE can only be used in conjunction with a Valor Dimension electric fire.

Electric fires bring their own benefits though. They are 100% efficient at the point of use and provide usable heat as soon as they are switched on. Gas fires, on the other hand, need to heat the flue before they become effective, which can take more than 20 minutes.
