Every day, an installer is walking away from his local merchants £500 better off, after taking part in Baxi's Golden Boot Challenge. The football competition is just one part of the Baxi 'Football's coming to my Home' road show, which is visiting merchants throughout England.
Shaun Mangan, of M and M Gas Services Ltd, made his usual visit to Plumb Center in Dunstable for pipes and parts on Monday morning. He was surprised to see the Baxi road show tent in the car park, and the giant Baxi Duo-tec Combi boiler with a hole cut out for scoring goals through.
"I was interested to see everything that was going on," said Shaun, "and when I was asked to have a go at the Golden Boot challenge, I thought 'why not?'. I managed to score five goals in 45 seconds, but I never thought I'd win the day's competition.
"I'm really chuffed, and have got lots of ideas on how to spend the money. I am also interested in finding out what else Baxi has to offer, as I don't currently fit them.
"When I walked in, it was just like every other day, but I walked out £500 richer - it's not every day that happens!" adds Shaun.
And at PTS in Reading, Michael Alleyne of Gavin Rolfe Plumbing, Heating and Gas Services scored eight goals to win the £500 jackpot. Michael plays football for West Reading Football Club, but he didn't expect to win. "I think I'll use the money to celebrate in style." he laughed.
Branch manager Andy Grayston said: "The Baxi road show is the first trade event at the Reading branch since we moved to new, bigger and more convenient premises. It was a great opportunity for us to attract new customers and to let our existing customers know where they can find us. The football game, prizes and smell of bacon butties created a real buzz around the branch."
The Baxi road show is touring 39 heating and plumbing merchants throughout England. At each stop, installers can take part in Baxi's Golden Boot Challenge - a penalty shoot-out competition where you have to kick a football through a hole cut out of a boiler as many times as you can in 45 seconds. Every day there will be £500 for the winner.
There will be lots of football goodies for everyone who comes to see us, as well as technical demonstrations of the award winning Baxi Duo-Tec HE combi boiler.
We are travelling the length and breadth of England, and there will be a prize for the installer who can guess how many miles we'll be travelling. The closest guess will win a Sony Playstation 3 with two controllers and the FIFA 2010 World Cup game.
