What is the Renewable Heat Premium Payment?
The Renewable Heat Premium payment (RHPP) scheme is designed to coincide with the Renewable Heat Incentive scheme (RHI) which is to be launched in October 2012 for homeowners. RHPP is a grant for the purchase of a new renewable heat appliance. The scheme is run by the Energy Saving Trust.
Who is eligible?
The Renewable Heat Premium Payment is open to residents in England, Scotland and Wales. All homeowners are eligible for vouchers towards Solar Thermal* products but only those who live in off mains gas areas are eligible for vouchers towards Biomass and Ground Source Heat pump technologies.
You must also comply with the following points:
- The property must be owned by you or if you are a tenant you must be purchasing the system yourself and have permission from the owner of the property
- The property must have loft insulation to 250mm and cavity wall insulation (where practical)
- You should have all necessary planning and environmental permissions in place
- The product and installer you choose must be MCS certified or equivalent
What technologies are eligible?
The following renewable heat technologies are eligible with the RHPP scheme:
- Solar Thermal*
- Air Source Heat Pumps
- Biomass
- Ground Source Heat Pumps
When does the scheme start?
The scheme started on the 1st August 2011 and will run through to 31st March 2012.
How much are the vouchers worth?
The vouchers are worth different amounts depending on the type of eligible technology purchased, the values are as follows:

Do the vouchers expire?
Yes, the vouchers expire at different dates depending on the type of technology the vouchers are being used for: All vouchers will expire by the 31st March 2012.

What is the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS)?
In order to be eligible for RHPP, both the microgeneration product and the installer who fits it must be MCS accredited. The Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) has been introduced by the Government to evaluate the quality of microgeneration products and installers to protect consumers and ensure that Government money is spent effectively.
It is important to check that products and installers are MCS accredited when you consider investing in them. You can locate your nearest MCS qualified installer by using the installer search on the MCS website.
