Microgeneration FAQs

Q. What is MCS?

A. MCS stands for Microgeneration Certification Scheme. The scheme is designed to certify low carbon and renewable energy technology products and installers, to ensure they meet rigorous manufacture and installation standards. MCS provides consumers with a guarantee that the products and installers they select meet a high standard. To be eligible to receive a grant such as the Feed-in Tariff, you must use an MCS certified installer and an MCS certified product.

Baxi EcogenTM, Baxi SolarfloTM in-roof solar panels, Baxi Multi-heatTM biomass and Baxi Solo InnovaTM biomass have all achieved Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) certification.

Q. Which technologies can be used in microgeneration?

A.

  • Solar thermal hot water
  • Ground source heat pumps (GSHP)
  • Biomass
  • Solar PV (photovoltaics)
  • Wind turbine
  • Hydro
