Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS)

The Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) is owned by the Department for Energy and Climate Change (DECC) and is designed to evaluate products and installers against stringent criteria for microgeneration technologies.

The aims of the MCS are to:

  • Help build a rapidly growing Microgeneration industry based on quality and reliability
  • Contribute to cutting the UK's dependency on fossil fuels and its carbon dioxide emissions
  • Provide consumer confidence that products and installers meet and continue to meet robust standards
  • Aid in growing the Microgeneration industry

Currently the following mirogeneration technologies may be assessed:

  • Solar Heating Collectors
  • Solar PV
  • MicroWind
  • Heat Pumps
  • Biomass

Installers, plumbers, heating engineers and electricians who are interested in becoming MCS certified can now download a guide which explains how the scheme works, the benefits and how you can get involved. The guide is entitled 'Low and Zero carbon Technologies: Opportunities and the MCS' and can be viewed on the MCS website.

Baxi Certified products

Currently, Baxi Solarflo in-roof solar panels, Ambiflo air source heat pumps, Baxi Multi-heat biomass and Baxi Solo Innova biomass have all achieved Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) certification.
