Once you have checked you are eligible you should:
- Obtain a quote for your boiler replacement. For a simple way to find an installer in your local area, use our Find an Installer tool
Please note; you can check that your installer is properly qualified for the work they are carrying out by consulting the Gas Safe Register if it is a gas installation or the OFTEC register for oil installations. All installers should be a member of a recognised industry body such as CLE or SNIPEF. If you are replacing your boiler with a microgeneration technology, this must be installed by a person qualified under the Microgeneration Certification Scheme.
- We recommend you get at least two quotes from registered installers to make sure you are getting the best value for money. To find installers in your area use our helpful Find an Installer tool
- Apply for a voucher online at the EST website, or by telephone on 0800 512 012
- When you have received your voucher, arrange the installation of your new boiler
- Pay for the installation and the boiler upfront
- Claim your £400 cash back by sending the completed voucher and invoice to the EST within 18 weeks of your application
Boiler scrappage schemes in England and in Wales have now closed to new applicants as all of the available vouchers have been allocated.
To qualify for the boiler scrappage scheme you must replace your boiler with a high efficiency boiler recommended by The Energy Saving Trust (EST).
All Baxi SEDBUK (2005) >90% high efficiency boilers, including the Baxi Bermuda BBU HE, are EST recommended. Replacing an older boiler with one of Baxi's high efficiency boilers could save you up to £225 a year* on your energy bills and reduce your carbon dioxide emissions by up to 1.2 tonnes.
For householders with an old back boiler, the Baxi Bermuda BBU HE is the only high efficiency direct replacement in the UK - it's the easiest and most cost effective way to replace your old back boiler unit.
Why should I replace my boiler? After all, it still works
If your boiler has a permanent pilot light or is over 10 years old, it is likely to be less than 70 per cent efficient. A new high efficiency boiler is over 90 per cent efficient, which means you will get over 20 per cent more heat and hot water from your fuel. And that could reduce your fuel bills by up to £225 a year*. In addition, it will substantially reduce your home's carbon footprint.
How can I tell if my boiler is SEDBUK (2005) <70% rated?
If your boiler has got a permanent pilot (a small flame visible through the boiler panel that you have to reignite manually if it goes out) then it is likely to be SEDBUK (2005) <70% rated.
