The boiler scrappage scheme has been introduced by the Government to improve energy efficiency and tackle fuel poverty by offering £400 for up to 125,000 households to upgrade their old boilers to the latest efficient models.
The scheme is now closed to new applications in England and Scotland as all of the available vouchers have been claimed.
Householder benefits of upgrading
By upgrading you boiler you should see an immediate benefit. For example changing from a G rated boiler to an A rated boiler could save you up to £235 each year.
If you have a voucher but have not yet commissioned your current boiler to be replaced, do not delay. You have 12 weeks from the date the voucher was issued until it expires.
Who can apply?
The scheme is now closed to householders in England and Scotland.
The Welsh Assembly introduced its own boiler scrappage scheme giving £500 for those over 60 with a Band G boiler starting April 1, 2010. For more information, please visit the Home Energy Efficiency Scheme (HEES) Wales website.
Northern Ireland has yet to decide whether they will introduce a similar scheme.
