The boiler scrappage scheme has been extended by the Scottish Government to improve energy efficiency and tackle fuel poverty by offering a £400 subsidy to householders who upgrade their old boilers to the latest high efficiency models.
The scheme is now closed to new applications in England and Wales as all of the available vouchers have been claimed.
Benefits of upgrading your heating system
When you upgrade your boiler you should see immediate benefits. For example replacing a SEDBUK (2005) <70% rated boiler with a SEDBUK (2005) >90% high efficiency boiler could save you up to £225 each year on your gas bill*.
If you have a voucher but have not yet had your boiler replaced, do not delay. You must have your new boiler installed and return your completed voucher within 18 weeks from the date it was issued or the voucher will expire.
Who can apply?
The boiler scrappage scheme in England and Wales is now closed because all the vouchers have been allocated.
The Scottish Government has extended the scheme to Scottish homeowners who did not get the chance when the scheme was originally announced in 2010. To find out if you are eligible visit the Energy Saving Trust (EST) website.
There is an equivalent scheme available in Northern Ireland. The Warm Homes scheme, funded by the Department for Social Development, is for people who receive certain qualifying benefits and own or rent their home from a private landlord in Northern Ireland.
