Scottish boiler scrappage scheme extended

In January 2011, the Scottish Government announced extra funding for the boiler scrappage scheme for home owner/occupiers in Scotland. The scheme is now open for applications; see below to find out how to apply.

Am I eligible?

You can check if you are eligible for the Scottish boiler scrappage scheme by visiting the Scottish Energy Saving Trust (EST) website or alternatively refer to the criteria below.

To be eligible:

  • Your current boiler must be working and have a SEDBUK annual performance 2005 efficiency rating of less than 70%, visit the SEDBUK website or consult our SEDBUK ratings explained page for more details. If you are unsure of your boiler's rating please contact the Home Energy Scotland hotline on 0800 512 012

Please note; if you are aged over 60 and have a boiler with a SEDBUK (2005) efficiency rating of less than 70% that is no longer working, you may still be able to apply. Please consult the EST website for details
  • You must be replacing your boiler with an Energy Saving Trust Recommended (ESTR) boiler or a Microgeneration Certification Scheme accredited microgeneration technology, such as the Baxi EcogenTM

Please note; an A-rated boiler does not automatically qualify as ESTR. You can find a list of ESTR boilers on the EST website or if you need further assistance please call the Home Energy Scotland hotline on 0800 512 012
  • You must be the owner and occupier of the domestic property in Scotland in which the new boiler will be installed
  • You must have received a written or verbal quotation for your boiler replacement before making an application. To find installers in your local area use our helpful Find an Installer tool

Please note; you are not obliged to take up this quote and can seek others after your application. We advise speaking to at least two installers to ensure you are getting the best value for money
  • You must make an application and receive your voucher before having the boiler replaced. Any work started before you have received your voucher will invalidate your claim
  • This cannot be used in conjunction with any other loan/grant support from the Scottish Government or any funding under the Carbon Emissions Reduction Target (CERT)
  • All work must be carried out by a fully qualified installer. For gas installations consult the Gas Safe Register or for oil installations the OFTEC register to check your installer is properly qualified. All installers should be a member of a recognised industry body such as CLE or SNIPEF. Installation of a microgeneration technology must be carried out by a person qualified under the Microgeneration Certification Scheme.

If you are eligible check out our 'How to apply' page for details on how to apply for the scheme
