Boiler scrappage scheme FAQs

Is there a similar scheme in Scotland?

The Scottish boiler scrappage scheme opened in May and is now closed to new applications following the uptake of all 4,600 vouchers.

Which boilers can I redeem my voucher against?

Your £400 voucher can be redeemed against any gas, or LPG SEDBUK A-rated boiler - such as the award-winning Baxi Duo-tec Combi HE A

If you have a back boiler you could replace with a Baxi Bermuda BBU HE. There are 1.8 million back boilers that are classed as Band G and Baxi is the only manufacture a high efficiency replacement.

You may also redeem your voucher against Low and Zero carbon technologies such as microCHP units, biomass boilers, air source heat pumps and ground source heat pumps - while solar is another option, provided it is combined with an eligible boiler.

Does the £400 voucher expire?

Yes, it does. From the date of issue, you have twelve weeks to commission the boiler, install and return your voucher and invoice to the EST.

If you've not submitted your claim after twelve weeks, the voucher becomes void - however the EST will send you a reminder as the deadline approaches.

If your voucher expires, it will be reallocated to another household. You will be able to apply for a voucher again, though be aware that they are limited on a first come, first served basis.

Who can carry out the installation of my new boiler?

Your boiler replacement must be carried out by an installer registered with the Gas Safe Register.
For your convenience, we keep a database of fully registered Baxi installers. To find your nearest, simply enter your postcode.

What if I can't afford to pay for my boiler replacement up front?

If this is the case, it would be worth investigating the Warm Front scheme - which operates specifically for low-income households.

Please note that this is separate to the Boiler Scrappage Scheme and you are not able to apply for both.
