Legislation & Climate Change

Climate change and the Law:  Climate change is caused by increasing amounts of greenhouse gases, including carbon dioxide, released into the atmosphere.

A range of legislative measures has been introduced by the Government and forms a fundamental part of the UK's strategy to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 60 per cent by 2050.

  • The Code for Sustainable Homes (the Code) has been introduced to drive change in sustainable home building practice.

  • The Energy Efficiency for Boilers Campaign is designed to raise awareness of energy efficiency checks and provide basic energy advice for homeowners.

  • Home Information Packs have been introduced by the Government in order to give home buyers important information about the energy performance of a home.

  • A zero carbon home uses renewable fuels, does not consume fossil fuels (non-renewable resources) and is highly insulated.

  • Every new boiler must carry a minimum SEDBUK Band A or Band B rating.

  • The Government's 'Standard Assessment Procedure' or (SAP) gives national energy efficiency ratings for dwellings.
