Baxi has welcomed the launch of a consultation recommending that people will no longer need to apply for planning permission to install microgeneration devices on their properties. Ruth Kelly, Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, announced the plans, intended to make it easier for every homeowner to play their part in tackling climate change, in a speech to the Green Alliance.
Andy Dabin, Renewables Product Manager for Baxi, is convinced that relaxing planning permission for renewable products will encourage homeowners to explore the options available to them. "Climate change is headline news right now and has considerably increased awareness and interest in renewable products",
he says.
"It is the duty of manufacturers such as ourselves to provide up-to-date information to the public, domestic heating installers and merchants on the latest building regulations, government initiatives and available technology.
"In the past, the 'green' energy market was driven by small, specialist operators. However, significant growth over the last few years has seen it become more mainstream. The myths associated with these new technologies, such as their cost, user-friendliness and versatility, have been dispelled and long established heating companies are now showing their commitment to the future by adding these products to their offer.
"And interest is growing daily as everyone gets behind the campaign to address climate change," concludes Andy.
Baxi recognised the need to move towards renewable energy sources a number of years ago and offers a range of products that can be retrofitted on existing houses or incorporated into newbuild developments. These include Solarflo thermal domestic hot water system, Geoflo Ground Source Heat Pump, the Baxi DACHS unit and Biomas solid fuel heating. The company is also working on the next generation of renewable technologies, Micro CHP.
