Installer Mack, of MPH Services, Bath, and homeowner Neil Richardson were surprised to discover an old copy of The Sun under the floorboards while installing a Baxi Duo-tec 28 HE in a home in Somerset.
The newspaper was open at a full page advertisement with the strap line 'It's not which boiler, it's which Baxi'.
Neil explains: "We bought the house from an old lady who had lived here since 1955. There was an old gas fire in the lounge and plug-in oil radiators, but the house was very cold.
"A friend recommended Mack when we decided that proper heating was a priority. He installed the Baxi boiler in the loft and proper radiators in every room. It was when he lifted the lino in the bathroom to install a heated towel rail that he discovered the newspaper.
"I'm sure it was fate. We are delighted with the new system, and have been lovely and warm, especially during the cold snap earlier this year."
The Sun is dated Monday, October 15, 1984. As well as the Baxi advert, there are pictures of Princess Diana with her new baby, Prince Harry. Margaret Thatcher attended a memorial service for the victims of the Brighton bombing. And Bobby Robson was manager of England.
Other adverts include the Woolwich building society and its 14% gross interest rate, the brand new Vauxhall Nova for just £3,754 and a state of the art VHS video recorder for £399.95.
Remember those days?
The Baxi Duo-tec Combi 28 HE was voted CORGI boiler of the Year 2008 and awarded the UK's Best Buy boiler by independent consumer magazine Which? in 2007.
