Baxi Ecogen wins Micropower Innovation Award

Date:
30/04/2009

The Baxi Ecogen micro-CHP has won the Innovation category of the prestigious Micropower Awards at the Gladstone Library at One Whitehall Place, London.  Mark Kelly, CEO of Baxi Group UK and Ireland, was presented with the award by the president of the Micropower Council, Baroness Maddock, and host of the event author and broadcaster Penney Poyzer.

It was the most hotly contested award of the night, receiving numerous entries. The judges chose the Baxi Ecogen microCHP because it is seen as a potential successor to condensing boilers. It is a wall-hung unit which generates space heating, hot water and 1kW of electricity. They felt that Baxi has dealt with production and tolerance issues in an innovative manner and has developed a product which delivers significant carbon and energy savings.

Baroness Maddock commented: "We were delighted with the quality of the entries this year, which represent the growing strength of the industry and demonstrate the extent to which microgeneration technology is becoming increasingly mainstream and gaining wider public acceptance. The judges were very impressed by the breadth of applications - from individuals, businesses and local authorities as well as the microgeneration industry and fuel poverty and environmental organisations."

Awards were presented in four categories: Innovation, Key Project, Public Sector and Outstanding Personal Contribution.  The applications were assessed by a distinguished panel of judges: Lord Whitty, Chair of Consumer Focus; Alan Whitehead MP, Chair of the Parliamentary Renewable and Sustainable Energy Group; Andrew Warren, Director of the Association for the Conservation of Energy; Dr Nick Eyre, Head of the Lower Carbon Futures Group at Oxford University and Eddie Hyams, Chair of the Energy Saving Trust. The judges commented on the high quality of the applications received, which reflect the strength, creativity and commitment of the sector.
