Solar thermal water heating makes use of the most abundant energy source we have - the sun. In the summer, up to 100 per cent of a home's hot water requirement can be produced. A well designed solar package can provide around 55 per cent of the annual hot water demand, substantially reducing carbon emissions.
The Baxi Solarflo solar thermal domestic hot water system has a solution for every application. In-roof flat plate collectors are installed within the roof structure and are the perfect choice for all newbuild developments or major roof refurbishments. On-roof flat plate collectors are ideal for retrofit, and can also be used for flat roof mounting using and A-frame.
Baxi Solarflo direct flow evacuated tubes can be mounted landscape or portrait, and can be sited on a pitched or flat roof, façade mounted or on an A frame, making them extremely versatile. In addition, the tubes can be angled individually to maximise their solar gain.
The sturdy tubes are available in sets of 20 or 30, with absorber areas of two and three square metres respectively. The individual tubes have a low lift weight and can be assembled in situ, enabling simpler installation. The easy, tool-free connection of the tubes to the manifold reduces the risk involved when working at height.
The tubes have a number of safety features incorporated within their design. The tubes are connected to the manifold with flexible necks to allow for safe expansion and contraction of joints and minor misalignments in assembly. The all copper absorber and absorber plate, ultrasonically welded for perfect thermal transfer, avoids the potential for thermal shock or cracking. There is a thermostatically controlled blending valve on the water outlet to guard against scalding.
For roofs that are not south facing, on-roof and in-roof flat plate collectors and evacuated tubes are all compatible with the Baxi Solarflo East West array kit which enables solar collectors to be fitted on either side of the roof to maximise solar gain.
Which ever system you choose, the Baxi Solarflo package has been designed to be completely compatible with Heatrae Sadia range of solar cylinders. It includes everything needed to install the system: pump station with high temperature components; expansion cylinder; 30 metres of stainless steel, fully flexible hose; pre-mixed solar fluid; and all the fittings and connections required for installation. The solar controller provides information on power savings and usage, and is supplied as an integral part of the pump station to save time on installation; however, it can be removed for more convenient siting if required.
