Baxi's Duo-tec Combi 28 HE achieved the top score of 34 boilers tested in a recent Which? report.
The company says that consumers can do a number of things to help save money.
Lee Robinson, Baxi's customer service director, says that for people with a boiler that's over 10 years old, the best solution is to exchange your old boiler for a new high efficiency-condensing boiler. "Older boilers may convert as little as 60 per cent of the gas they use into useful heat, meaning higher fuel bills and more greenhouse gases.
"A new condensing boiler could cut these householders' gas bills by nearly 40 per cent or £150 per year for a typical semi-detached house."
Baxi has money saving advice for all consumers.
- First make sure that you are using your heating controls correctly. Review your boiler thermostat, cylinder thermostat, time programmer and thermostatic radiator valve settings and re-set them to match your needs more closely in terms of timing and comfort. As the weather heats up, make sure you change your boiler settings to match the temperature.
- Make sure you are not blocking radiators by furniture or curtains.
- Use the summer to fit reflective insulation panel boards on the wall behind the radiators, especially if it's an outside wall. Rigid reflective radiator panels are an ideal solution if you don't want to take your radiators off the walls.
- Getting your boiler serviced once a year will make sure it continues to work as efficiently, safely and reliably as possible. Typically, this will cost around £120 and the summer is an ideal time to get this sorted.
